National Parks and Tours

National Parks and circuits

Madagascar is one of the 4 biggest island in the world, and of the 7 countries benefiting from what is qualified as exceptional ecological richness.

It is not surprising that ecotourism is one of the first assets of the Continent-Isle which, at the International Union Conference for Nature Conservation in August 2004 in Durban proposed to multiply by 3 the surface of its areas to conserve. Madagascar National Parks is the organisation in charge of the National Park management. 2007 was a lucky year as 6 Parks were then as World Patrimony by Unesco under the term of « Humid Forests of the Atsinanana ».

They are Marojejy, Masoala, Zahamena, Ranomafana, Andringitra, and Andohahela. In this distinction, they join the Tsingy of Bemaraha which were consecrated in 1990.

Andohahela

(60 km away from Fort Dauphin)

Andohaela, in the region of Fort Dauphin, is a key national park, reason why it was honoured and awarded the Loutre d’Argent Trophy at the World Travel Market 99 in London. Its specificity lies in the extraordinary variety of its ecosystems due to the proximity of the mountainous chain of Anosy.

Andringitra

(46 km from Ambalavao, to the south of Fianarantsoa)

The Park is perched on the Massif of Andringitra at an altitude ranging from 650 to 2658 m. Andringitra is one of the biological hotspots of Madagascar, a natural laboratory where relic and more recent species cohabit, which accounts for the originality of its fauna and flora.

Ankarana

Cap Sainte Marie

(To the south tip of Madagascar between Tuléar and Fort Dauphin)

Beautiful beaches, high sandstone cliffs and caves offer a dream landscape at the south tip of Madagascar. Situated between the waters of the Mozambique Channel and those of the Indian Ocean, it is not surprising that this harsh place is beaten by the winds and conveys an impression of “ end of the world”.

Isalo

Set up as a national park in 1962 and the main natural curiosity on the road to the South, stretching over 81 000ha, Isalo is chronologically the second natural park of Madagascar.
