Ambositra is famous for its wood carvings. A tour called "orange" will guide you through a village where 150 families are engaged in the manufacture of wooden objects made with towers hand and move in the middle of rice fields terraces (170 steps) up to orange groves. Ambositra is the gateway to the mountainous country dotted with Zafimaniry villages where all the houses are built without wood studs, or mortises. These remarkable constructions, and especially, their sculpted doors and windows are so admirable that they were included in the World Heritage of UNESCO. Geometric designs and rosettes show relationships that people have with their environment, ancestors and therefore the world of beyond. Two days or a week treks can immerse you in this particularly unspoilt and authentic country. True initiatory journey into countries where beliefs and legends passed down from generation to generation. |
