Following a brief speed boat transfer from Tuléar, the arrival in Anakao is a memorable experience: transfer “vehicles” are zebus carts!  Within a stable year, this small Vezo capital hosts approximately 3000 tourists.  Diving into an aquarium-like sea, trolling or handlines fishing, sailing to the islands or in the mangrove forests and in the hinterland, whalewatching in the season…such are the activities Anakao and its location between two types of exceptional biodiversity (marine and terrestrial) have to offer.  The islet of Nosy Ve, accros the beaches of Anakao, shelters the only colony of the White-tailed Tropicbirdin Madagascar and is a sacred location for the Vezo to perform their rituals.

One can rent a 4x4 vehicle in Anakao to visit within a few hours the beautiful Bay of Beheloka, the Tsimanampesotse National Park, the Ambola village, the trails on the Mahafaly land, the perfect curve of the Bay of Itampolo 130 km away.

The Tsimanampesotse National Park located 275 km South of Tuléar welcomed its first visitors in 2001.  Its Salty Lake gushes out as an oasis in the driest part of Madagascar.  The vegetation is fascinating; its shapes reflect a constant battle against drought.  Birds are the main attraction.  Thousands of pink flamingoes, of dwarf flamingoes and of grebes during the dry season, provide an unforgettable show.

4 circuits have been created for the visit.  Of particular interest is the Tsimaso circuit, including the caves and swallow holes which shelter the blind fish Typhleotris Madagascariensis.  Tsimanampesotse has two camping sites and equipment rental is possible.  Basic accommodation is available at the vicinity of the Park.
